St. Mark’s College and Corpus Christi College, institutions located on the University of British Columbia (UBC) campus on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam people, are delighted to announce they have received a $30,000 USD grant to support their work in advancing pedagogies of social justice, decolonization, and indigenization in a Canadian Catholic context.

This grant from the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion, renowned for its support of faculty development in theology and religion within higher education, has recognized the remarkable potential within the Colleges.

Recognizing the pivotal role of religion and theology faculty, St. Mark’s and Corpus Christi aim to address two key challenges: (1) articulating the pedagogical implications of the new Strategic Plan’s focus on Catholic identity and its emphasis on forming students committed to social justice, civic engagement and the common good and (2) fostering a culture of dialogue and inclusivity across disciplines, starting from the lens of theology and religion faculty. Activities will include workshops, retreats, experiential learning events, dialogue sessions and site visits involving Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, guest scholars, and community members.

By engaging in this work of pedagogy, the Colleges will enhance the educational experience of students and inspire them to contribute to the cultivation of an inclusive common good.
