Studying Theology at St. Mark’s Builds Foundation for Lay Ministry
Apr 27, 2023
“Studying theology of ministry has helped me clarify questions relating to service in lay ministry, through a theological lens,” says Eleanor Wong, referring to her first graduate level class taught by Dr. Nick Olkovich.
Investing time in studying theology has brought a deeper understanding and appreciation for Eleanor’s faith and has empowered her in her leadership role as youth ministry co-ordinator at St. Matthew’s Parish in Surrey. Studies have equipped her with the knowledge and understanding needed to respond effectively in her ministry.
Eleanor is one of the recipients of the new Formation for Lay Ministry Scholarship funded by the Archdiocese of Vancouver and St. Mark’s College. This scholarship supports the integral work of local lay ministry leaders within the Archdiocese of Vancouver by covering tuition for three foundational courses in our programs. Today, the scholarship recipients are actively involved in a variety of ministries, including Couples for Christ, Catholic Christian Outreach, healing ministry, parish renewal, and women’s ministry.
