Pope Appoints Saint Mark’s College Principal as Bishop

Oct 15, 2013

October 15, 2013. Rev. Dr. Mark A Hagemoen, Principal of Saint Mark’s College and President of Corpus Christi College, has been appointed by Pope Francis as Bishop of the Diocese of Mackenzie – Fort Smith, based in Yellowknife. Mackenzie – Fort Smith is Canada’s largest-area and northernmost diocese.

“Dr. Rev. Hagemoen has been a driving force at the Colleges since his appointment as Principal of St. Mark’s College and President of Corpus Christi College in July 2011”, noted Michelle Chang, Board Chair. “This is evidenced by his boundless energy in guiding the Colleges in accordance with their mission statements and the development of programs to further promote Catholic higher education. His appointment as Bishop is a testament of his significant contribution. His presence at the Colleges will be greatly missed when he moves to the Northwest Territories.”

“At the Colleges, Dr. Rev. Hagemoen is assisted by a very able team of administrative staff and experienced faculty, who will continue to serve the St. Mark’s College and Corpus Christi College community. In the meantime, the Board will commence the transition and search process to ensure that operations at the Colleges are not affected in any manner,” said Chang.

The date of Rev. Hagemoen’s ordination and installation has not yet been set.
