Dr. John W. Martens, Professor of Theology and Director of the Centre for Christian Engagement at St. Mark’s College, has received an Insight grant worth over $90,000 for a project titled “Childhood, Education, and Family Relations in Early Christian Communities.”

The Insight grants are awarded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and funded by the Government of Canada, to support research excellence in the social sciences and humanities.

The grant is held by co-applicants Margaret MacDonald (St. Mary’s University, Halifax) and John W. Martens (St. Mark’s College, Vancouver). They are joined by two international collaborators: Cornelia Horn (Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Germany) and Teresa Morgan (Yale University, USA).

The funding provided through this grant will support conferences and workshops, including one to be held at St. Mark’s College at UBC, and the dissemination of the results through a series of podcast episodes on the Centre for Christian Engagement’s podcast, What Matters Most and through books and articles.

Congratulations to Dr. John Martens and his colleagues.
