Join us for an insightful conversation on teachings of the Good Samaritan in the context of modern Catholic Health Care in Canada, with broader themes of the common good and pluralism.

The presenters will revisit and discuss the parable of the Good Samaritan in the context of modern Catholic health care in Canada, including broader themes of the common good and pluralism. This extended conversation will invoke thoughtful consideration of alternative voices and shared values as the foundation of caring for all in our community.

Speakers:

  • David Cayley is a writer and retired broadcaster living in Toronto. He worked at CBC Radio for 41 years, the last 30 as an interviewer and documentary maker at Ideas. He is the author of nine books, of which the most recent is Ivan Ilich: An Intellectual Journey (Penn State Press), a study of Illich’s life and thought.
  • Dr. Michael W. Higgins (PhD) is President-Principal and Vice-Chancellor at Corpus Christi College-St. Mark’s College at UBC. He has a distinguished background as an experienced academic leader, celebrated author, and lecturer. Dr. Higgins is a biographer, author, columnist, scholar, and a regular contributor to The Globe and Mail, The Tablet, and the Literary Review of Canada. He is also a frequent commentator for both the CBC and CTV networks.

With opening remarks by The Most Reverend J. Michael Miller, CSB, Archbishop of Vancouver, and moderated by Francis Maza, DMin, Vice President of Mission, Ethics & Spirituality for Providence Health Care.
