On February 29, Dr. Niigaan Sinclair will be offering a public lecture for the Centre for Christian Engagement at St. Mark’s College. His lecture is titled “Papal Visit 2022: The Catholic Church and the Four Steps.” In this lecture, Dr. Sinclair will look back at the Pope’s visit and look forward to what steps need to be taken by the Roman Catholic Church to continue healing and reconciliation. Pope Francis’ journey to Canada to meet Indigenous peoples on their land, to apologize for past actions, and to answer the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action was rich in symbols, stories, and steps. This lecture promises to be both challenging and uplifting as Dr. Sinclair explores the four steps Pope Francis modeled to evoke reconciliation in the Catholic Church in Canada.

Dr. Sinclair is uniquely qualified to offer this lecture. During the papal visit, Dr. Sinclair was an important voice on national and international media documenting and analyzing the historic visit as it happened. In addition, Dr. Sinclair holds a Professorship in Indigenous Knowledge and Aesthetics in the Department of Indigenous Studies at the University of Manitoba.

This event is free to the public, but kindly register beforehand on Eventbrite, or email [email protected] for questions. Light refreshments to follow the question and answer session.

The event will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, 7:00PM-9:30PM. St. Mark’s College. 5935 Iona Drive, Vancouver, BC.
