The Community of St. Mark's at UBC

The Community of St. Mark’s is comprised of St. Mark’s College, St. Mark’s Parish and Corpus Christi College. Located on the campus of St. Mark’s College at the University of British Columbia, we are a place of community, study, worship, dialogue and prayer.

We are the legacy of more than ninety years of continuous Catholic presence at the University of British Columbia. We come together to form this community in order to serve the spiritual, intellectual and service needs of the Archdiocese of Vancouver and the Province of British Columbia, and share in common the vision of becoming the vibrant “Catholic centre” at the University of British Columbia.

Steeped in a rich legacy of faith, this presence includes the vision of our founders, the Basilian Fathers, who for many years taught in the University’s academic divisions, helped to shape the athletic tradition of the University and served its Catholic parish and chaplaincy.

Located on the campus of St. Mark’s College, St. Mark’s Parish is now served by the Jesuit Fathers, who labour together with the Office of Campus Life and Ministry at the Catholic Colleges to build up the sacramental and intellectual life of the community. Welcoming and encouraging of diversity, our community strives to support the development of students as whole persons, poised and prepared to make their contributions to the world.

Through their distinctive roles, the Colleges and the Parish share resources and personnel supporting a dynamic intellectual, liturgical and sacramental life. Living, working, studying and praying as one, we strive to be, in the words of Pope Francis, “a community of people, animated by the Holy Spirit, who have lived and are living the wonder of the encounter with Jesus Christ and want to share this experience of deep joy, the message of salvation that the Lord gave us.” (Message for World Mission Day, May 19, 2013)
